The town has been provided with localized water supply since 1968 using the local reservoirs in Ulagalapadi Water Supply Head works were later when the population increased; the supply was augmented by using other local sources. This has been further Constrained in shortage of annual rainfall in the catchments area. Therefore the water supply schemes using the Somavarakulam   and Peygopuram Street reservoirs were contemplated and implemented in the town. The actual water realized from the local reservoirs is around 120.00 MLD which is 90% of the total supply of 12.00 MLD in the town.
