About Municipality Ranipet
Municipality was constituted on 01.04.1959 as per G.O.MS No. 724
RDLA dt.01.04.1959. It was upgraded as IInd Grade with effect from
05.10.1978, and then as Ist Grade Municipality with effect from22.05.1998.
The town was divided into 30 wards, out of which 9 wards were reserved
to S.C./S.T and 10 wards reserved for women. Total Number of voters
are 35977. Men voters 17715 and Women voters 18262. The area of
the town is 8.52 Sq.K.M. The population of the town is 47236 ( Men
23026 + Women 24210). The 74th Amendment, to the constitution which
aims at making the Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) as vibrant Local Self
Government Institutions, list out the functions to be transferred
to the Urban Local Bodies. The 12th Schedule in the constitution
identifies the following 18 functions within the domains of Urban
