Krishnagiri was constituted as a Panchayat and declared by the former Chief Minister Thiru. Arignar Anna Durai in the year on 27.10.1961. The Town was upgraded as Third grade Municipality in the year 1965, Second Grade on 7.2.1975. Krishnagiri functions as first grade Municipal Town with effect from 17.04.1984. It has an extent of 11.50sq.km and a population of 65024 as per 2001 census. The municipality consists of three Revenue Villages namely 1.Krishnagiri, 2. Boganapalli (part) and 3. Kattiganapalli (part).
