History of Muncipality


Koothanallur Selection Grade Town Panchayat was declared as grade III Municipality vide G.O.Ms.No.97, Municipal Administration and Water Supply Department dated 24.03.1994. This Municipality situated with in 30-Nagappattinam Lok Sabah Constituency and within the 178-Mannargudi Legislative Assembly Constituency.

The Total Extent of the Municipality is 12.31 Square Kilometres Comprising of 4 Revenue Villages.

This Municipality was upgraded as a II ^nd Grade Municipality with effect from 1.4.98 as per G.O.Ms.No.85, Municipal Administration and Water Supply Department, dated 22.05.1998. This Municipality was divided into 24 wards for the constitution of Municipal Council.

Constitution And Establishment Of Elected Muncipal Council

The Town was divided into 24 wards for the purpose of formation of Elected Council; as per G.O.Ms.No.189 Municipal Administration & Water Supply Department dated 20.8.96; and the Chairman was Elected Directly by the voters. As per G.O.Ms.No.156 Municipal Administration and Water Supply Department dated 27.8.1996 the Chairperson seat was reserved for General Community (Women). According to the Election Notification of the Tamilnadu State Election Commission No.SO.98/2006/TNSEC/ME dated 19.9.2006 general Election for Municipal Councillor’s  was conducted on 13.10.2006 and the Newly Elected Municipal Councilers has Assumed office on 25.10.2006. Tmt.K.H. Yasmin Farveen, DMK was Elected as Chairperson, and Thiru. S.M. Kadharusain (Ward 13) DMK was Elected as Vice Chairman on 28.10.2006.
