Municipality
Prior
to 1970, Avadi was a Muncipality In 1970 it was constituted
as Municipality comprising the Paruthipattu, Paleripattu,
Villianjiampakkam, Sekkadu, Muthapudupet, Thandurai, Mittanamillee,
Kovilpadagai & Thirumullaivoyal. In 1971 it was constituted
as II Grade Municipality. Due to rapid development and growth
of the town commercially and residentially, the Municipality
is now classified as a Special Grade Municipality. The population
as per 2011 census is 344701. The extent of the municipality
is 65.00 sq.km.
Now (YEAR-2008), It has been upgraded as SPECIAL GRADE MUNICIPLAITY
The Municipal Council comprising of 48 ward councillors
is headed by Chairperson,
who is elected by voters
of the town. The councillors elect a Vice-Chairperson
among them.
The executive wing is headed by a
commissioner
and he is assisted by a team of officials like Health
Officer, Municipal
Engineer, Town
Planning Officer, Manager, Revenue
officer and other officers.
