Located in the Thiruvannamalai district of the state, Arani
is one of the most important Silk centers of Tamil Nadu.
The town is situated at a distance of 132 kms to the West
of Chennai and at the intersection 79o 16’ Longitude and 12o39’
latitude.
Spread over an area of 11.62 sq. kms. Arani is the second
largest town in the district of Thiruvannamalai. With
a population of over 0.69 lakhs, the economy of the town revolves
around the manufacture of Silks Sarees products.
The hot and dry climate prevailing in the region has been
one of the various factors contributing to the growth
of the modern rice mills industry in the town.
Temperature
The climate of the town is subjected to extreme climatic
conditions that Is very hot during summer
and very cold during winter.
Rain Fall
The town gets major rainfall during the North west monsoon
period. The Annual normal rainfall varies from 300 mm
to 800 mm. The average annual rainfall being received
in the town is 770 mm.
Nature of Soil
The major group of soils that are found in the town are black
and red varieties. The red soil constitutes 90 percent
while black soil only 10 percent. |
