Sankarankovil Town was cositituted as Municipality on 1.4.1964. Then this Municipality upgraded as second grade Municipality on 13.11.1978 Again it was upgraded as Ist grade Municipality on 22.5.1998 This town has a population of 53613 as per 2001 census. Out of the tolal population 26271 are male and 27342 are females. The total SC/ST population is this Municipal jurisdiction extends to an area to an extend 12.37sq.km.More..
