About Municipality

Kovilpatti Municipality was constituted as a Third grade Municipality in the year 1964 as per G.O.Ms.No. 361 RD&LA Department, Date: 11.02.1964. with Kovilpatti Village part and Illupaiurani Village part. The Municipality is upgraded as Selection Municipality as per G.O.Ms.No. 85 MAWS Dept Date: 22.05.1998.

It is one of the largest match industries of all towns in Chennai as well as in India and Kovilpatti is in Thoothukudi District with a population 87450 ( As per 2001 census) spread over an area of 6.59 Sq.km.
